Okay, I have a 7 month old and I am told that if I do not get on a waiting list now for the preschool I want that I will not be able to get her in when she is ready. So I am starting my research here - there are so many different preschools and I am thinking that there is no one better to get a referral from that the mothers who are presently using them. So any help out there to point me in the right direction to start my search? I am wanting to stay in the east side area.

I recommend St. Ben's Preschool and Red Door. My oldest daughter went to Red Door and my three youngest go to St. Ben's. I love St. Ben's and we had a good experience at Red Door. Once my oldest started school at St. Ben's, I moved all the kids to their programs to make life easier. S. Ben's starts at 3 years and Red Door has a 2 year old program.
Good luck,
Jen

I recommend Montessori Academy on the East Side. It has really helped encourage independence in my eldest. Also he really knows so much from going there. They work on a variety of subjects (geography, math, reading, writing, practical living) all with hands on materials.
Our youngest has benefited from Methodist Temple. He is a late talker and he really has flourished there. They work with him, are not quick to judge him or fit him into a box, and he really has grown quite a bit in the last 6 months.

I just posted on this subject... I moved to Evansville in August and initially had trouble with our first child care center. My son goes to Camp Adventure now and he loves it! They are a Baptist ministry child care/preschool center and have all day child care for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. They are also reasonably priced. Two of their preschool teachers came from the EVSC school system. My son is 5 and is doing wonderfully!

Well my two youngest children went to Lutheran Redeemer Preschool on Lincoln Avenue right across from UE. I absolutely loved it and can not say a negative thing about it. The difference in what my older two got out of preschool (they went to a different one here in town) and what my younger two got was amazing.

It is 3 days a week for the older class and 2 days for the younger kids. The teacher and her assistant were like family and I actually really miss them this year.

Good luck on your seach and I think there are quite a few good ones here on the east side.

I highly recommend Red Door Preschool. It is on Washington Ave. at Christ Church, across from St. Mary's Hospital. My daughter started there at 2 and completed 4 years. My son is in his second year at Red Door. It is a smaller preschool than many others and the staff is very caring with their students and families. I like the more personal feel you get and feel that the students develop closer relationships with the teachers because of the smaller size. The morning sessions are 8:30 -11 and afternoon 12-2:30. Two year old classes meet Tues. and Thurs., and do NOT have to be potty-trained. All other classes meet 3 days, Tues., Wed., and Thurs. The director's name is Mary Jo Falkenstein and phone number is 476-4910.

I also send my son to Red Door and am so pleased with the program. I like the small class sizes, the personal feel, and that they have a 2 program. I think that sending him to Red Door has been the best thing that I could have done for him. I have my 9 month old on the list for the 2s program 2009-2010.

No they do not have a summer program. The year starts in early Sept and ends in late May. I did see that Morningside has Mothers Day Out openings, you could check them out
