We are going on vacation at the end of the month and will be driving to Florida with a 5 and 3 year old. Anyone have any good tips on keeping them entertained. We do have a portable DVD player (which is a Godsend) and both have Leapsters that they love playing. Any games that your family plays to pass the time? The license plate game is a little out of there reach now, but finding letters or images on signs is possible. I also make up lists of things to look for when we go on our daily walk and I am sure we will do that. We don't allow them to have markers or color crayons in the car because they inevitably end up marking somewhere they are not supposed to. We have used the Color Wonder products on other trips and will probably use them again this time although the color books are very limited. I need some ideas to keep my sanity intact!!!

One idea that I saw when I was doing some research for our Disney trip was an idea for goody bags. Now these weren't filled with sugar. Once every hour or so many miles the Mom had made bags that included crayons, small quiet toys, books, travel etch a sketchs, happy meal toys, and also a map of where they were. True this requires quite a bit of planning, but it keeps the activities fresh and passes the time. One thing we also got on eBay were these blue trays that belted around the boys car seats. They were a sturdy foam that was covered with a thick nylon. They also had side walls that came up about an inch or two to prevent items from rolling off the tray. But they could play cars, playdoh, color, animals, nesting cups, and eat snacks on them. If we needed to put them away for a bit, they stored easy as well.

Those are great ideas. I really like the one about the goodie bags, that would definitely work for us.
