Anyone know of a good swim instructor who is great with kids with tubes in their ears? We would go to the Y but last year we had a middle of the road experience with their instructor. And I want to do one on two if we can with both boys once a week, since this will be their first swim season with tubes.
Anyone know anybody good with kids and a good swim instructor?
I was interested to see your mention of the Y instructors. Which Y did you go to? I was planning on taking my oldest there for swim lessons this summer.

Do both of your boys have tubes? My youngest does, also. In fact, we are heading to Riley Tuesday to have them replaced. We have to head all the way to Indy to have it done at Rileys because it is related to her cleft lip/palate that she was born with. It is really a pain in the pitooty to have a child under 2 years old with ear tubes. It makes bathing quite the chore to keep water away from her ears. I'm hoping that since her growth will be slowing at least a little that we can get some plugs made for her for the summertime, at least.

We used Dunnigan Family Y on the East Side by Lowe's.
Thomas gets tubes in his ears the second Friday in April, so it will be a new experience for us. I know he won't like those plugs in his ears! I know it with every fiber of my being. This is the kid who won't wear his hood when it's raining. He just doesn't like things around his head or on him. He doesn't like clothes besides being in public, so I don't know how we are going to get by with the plugs at bath time! Long road I fear!

My kids are signed up with Charlene (& Clint) Wiethop for swim classes. She is located on the far westside but comes highly recommended.

THis is off the topic of swim lessons (Conor did USI last summer and loved it), but is about tubes. Many doctors are now saying that the water in the ears thing isn't that big of a deal, especially at bath time. We don't do the plugs at bath time anymore, haven't for quite a while, and no problems (Juliana had them in at 13 months and she will turn 2 the end of this month). We do put them in for swimming, at the recommendation of the dr, because there is more direct ear to water contact and bacteria etc in the pools. The little amount of water that gets in their ears from washing hair, etc, is minimal, as opposed to swimming. We also put the antibiotic drops in her ears if I feel like she has gotten a lot of water in her ears (the plugs have fallen out before while swimming). Plus, the plugs don't keep 100 percent of the water out.
